LAURA GORDON 14

Allow me to introduce myself.

I help CEOs & Managing Directors accelerate their growth & transform their businesses and their lives.

I am a business growth consultant and leadership coach with over 20 years’ experience in retail, recruitment, professional services, government and public affairs, education services, communications, marketing and sales, I have developed a range of skills and expertise which I use to help my clients get great results.

Complementary to my main business, I am a Chair with Vistage International and I chair a private advisory board, coaching and mentoring CEO’s & MD’s of businesses typically from £5m to £100m turnover. Vistage International is the world’s leading Chief Executive organisation, dedicated to increasing the effectiveness and enhancing the lives of Chief Executives. We help our members become better leaders, making better decisions leading to better results.

Why am I qualified to help you?

Following a successful career as an award winning corporate lawyer, I became Director for Glasgow: Edinburgh Collaboration, an innovative Scottish Government supported economic development initiative between Glasgow and Edinburgh Councils and Scottish Enterprise. Never one to shy away from a challenge, this role fostered my relationships with most of Scotland’s leaders from all industries under an intense media spotlight.  Added to my experience in business and professional services this role formed the basis of my unique insight into the psyche of successful people at the heart of Scottish business and what challenges they face personally and professionally as they strive for commercial success.  I then became Commercial Director of ICS, one of the UK’s largest distance learning services companies.

Now business consultant and leadership coach and mentor I have found my niche with a strong portfolio of international clients. I love working with people and helping them to create change. From the day I set foot in that first psychology lecture at Glasgow University, I knew what motivated me was recognising what makes people tick. Whether it’s in their business, their relationships, their career, helping people learn new ways to transform their lives is something I’m passionate about. My work with Vistage International and the CEO’s and MD’s in the private advisory Group I chair is incredibly rewarding too, and through Vistage I am also able to grow and develop my skills and professional expertise on an ongoing basis.

My passions…

I’m very fortunate, I love what I do. I’m told I’m imaginative and creative, but at the same time pretty grounded and pragmatic. I support businesses in their growth aspirations with truly commercial ideas, an enviable list of connections and new strategies. My legal training has left me rather inquisitive and I’m told I can be quite persuasive…

As well as running my own business and being a Vistage Chair, I am Chair of the Institute of Directors in Glasgow and the West of Scotland, I am a Governor at Glasgow Caledonian University where I also sit on the Audit Committee and I have recently been appointed as Director of the Scottish North American Business Council.

I am committed to Scottish society as a whole and have hosted numerous business awards and conferences and spoken, chaired and facilitated at many.  I sat on the Council of CBI Scotland for 5 years, and on the Scottish Campaign Board of the Princes Royal Trust for Carers and the Development Board of the RSNO for 3 years apiece. A former director of both Glasgow and Edinburgh Chambers of Commerce, I also served on the Board of Glasgow Chamber of Commerce for four years and am a former Trustee for Reform Scotland, the leading nonpartisan think tank.

In my spare time, I love drama – cinema and theatre. I am extremely sociable and enjoy nothing more than spending quality time with friends and colleagues as well as frequenting my local gym and pounding the pavements to keep fit – I’m hoping to run my first half marathon for charity later this year. I enjoy travel, reading and writing and meeting new and interesting people – but learning and using new ideas to move forward is at the core of all I do and I look forward to doing that for you.
